Defense attorneys don’t “want” a hung jury — they want an acquittal. If they don’t get that, then a hung jury is preferable to a conviction, but not ideal since the case can be retried again if the prosecution decides to do so, as no final judgment has been rendered and double jeopardy does not apply.
