The average age was 35, and less than 10% were over the age of 65. Today there are approximately 41,000 priests (a drop of 17,000 priests since 1973), with an average age of 63, (an increase of 28 years over 1973) and more than 40% are over the age of 65! I will be 70 in November 2017.
